A Weekend Getaway to See the 8 Best Waterfalls in Britain

The UK is a land filled with a variety of natural beauty and lots of breathtaking places to visit, not least among them are waterfalls.

A lot of these treasures in the water that are usually overlooked or not appreciated enough are hidden gems. Our goal is to assist you in discovering these hidden gems.

1. Pistyll Rhaeadr

Pistyll Rhaedr is 240 feet (80m) at its highest, is the highest single-drop waterfall in Britain. It also ranks among the Seven Wonders of Wales. Generation after generation take in the experience and beauty of this special place.

The beautiful falls are situated in the Berwyn Mountains, which are located in Wales located west of Oswestry along with Shrewsbury. Pistyll Rhaedr can be a fantastic location to begin exploring the Berwyn Mountains. It offers two hiking paths and a café.

2. Eas a’ Chual Aluinn

Eas a’ Chual Anluinn can be described as Scotland’s highest waterfall. It falls 200m to Loch Glencoul and Loch Beag.

It’s also one of most spectacular waterfalls in Britain. For a view, climb to the top of the waterfall or embark on a trip by boat to Loch Beag and Loch Glencoul.

The climb to the summit is an out-and-back 10km journey, which should require 2.5-3 hours. The trail is hard to locate the trail, which is unmarked and boggy. An itinerary map is required.

3. Wain Wath Force

Wain Wath Force is a pretty waterfall on the upper River Swale, near Keld. This is a favourite stop for those who walk on the Coast to Coast, or go up Upper Swaledale.

It’s not particularly high yet it’s got an amazing setting and is very popular with wild swimming.

Gaping Gill, Britain’s largest underground cave, is situated in this area. This is a very cool place to visit, but it’s not for everybody!

4. Stock Gyll Force

Stock Ghyll Force, a breathtaking waterfall of 70 feet which cascades only two steps in a stunning ‘V-shaped’ formation is in the beautiful woods. It was once used to run water mills weaving wool into bobbins and milling corn.

This is an extremely loved waterfall within the Lake District and is easy to reach via Ambleside. It is a simple, family-friendly walk that will make for a great day trip with the family.

5. Neath Waterfalls

One of the UK’s most gorgeous waterfalls can be found at the Brecon Beacons. The region is known as ‘Waterfall Country’, and the region around the deep gorges formed by the streams Pyrddin, Mellte, Hepste and Nedd Fechan has the highest amount of cascades as well as stunning waterfalls of any in Wales.

One of the highlights is the loud Henrhyd Falls located on Nant Llech. This is a great fishing spot, especially during the fall, when salmon migrating can be seen leaping across the waterfalls.

6. Clampitt Falls

The waterfall is situated in South Devon and surrounded by Dartmoor National Park, Clampitt Falls is among the most popular waterfalls in Britain. Its man-made and natural set of falls is sure to impress even the most seasoned trekkers.

In the Canonteign Falls estate, this highly-popular attraction is known for its incredible history, as well as an array of activities to keep the all the family amused. The iconic Devon waterfall offers a scenic adventure with something to suit every age. It also has a café as well as a snack bar, sun terrace, in addition to a gift shop and cafe.

7. Bruar Water

Bruar Water, a group of waterfalls located within a gorge that is forest covered close the town of Blair Atholl is a collection. The gorge is a very popular spot to visit, and a favorite among visitors to Scotland.

The falls were created during the course of the Ice Age, when the glaciers receding. The gorge was later transformed to an arch.

8. Aira Force

The must-see attraction for visitors to the Lake District, Aira Force is a majestic waterfall tucked away within a stunning woodland. Aira Force offers easy access, and many walking trails. It’s an excellent option to enjoy a whole day in Penrith.

Take a stroll through the National Trust-owned park and begin your walk by heading over one of the bridges that cross Aira Beck. From here, you could either explore Aira Force’s Aira Force Extended Circular Trail or take on the shorter path to view two other waterfalls: High Force and High Cascades.
